What DGRO is

DGRO requires five consecutive years of dividend growth — a lower bar than VIG's ten, which brings in companies earlier in their dividend history and produces a slightly higher yield. Two further screens do most of the work: the payout ratio must stay under 75%, which rules out companies straining to fund a dividend they cannot afford, and the top decile of yielders is removed to avoid the same value trap VIG screens for. Holding around 400 names, it sits between VIG and VYM — more names than VIG, faster growth than VYM, and a fee that is 1 basis point higher than either.

Who it suits. Investors who want dividend growth but find VIG's yield too low, and are willing to accept a shorter growth record in exchange.
