What QQQI is

QQQI pairs a Nasdaq-100 equity sleeve with an options overlay that sells index call options and buys longer-dated ones, a structure that trades away some upside for a high monthly distribution. The options are SPX and NDX contracts, which are Section 1256 instruments — taxed at a blended 60% long-term / 40% short-term rate regardless of holding period. Combined with the fund's tax-loss harvesting, that means the large majority of each distribution is characterised as return of capital rather than income: it is not taxed on receipt, but it reduces your cost basis, so the gain is taxed when you sell. Yields run far above conventional dividend ETFs, with a fee to match.

Who it suits. Investors who want the highest current cash flow and will hold in a taxable account, where return of capital defers tax rather than being wasted. The trade-off is capped upside and a fee about ten times SCHD's.
