What VYMI is

VYMI is the international counterpart to VYM, screening developed and emerging markets outside the United States on forecast yield. It is the broadest fund on this page by a wide margin — well over a thousand holdings across Europe, Japan, Asia-Pacific and emerging markets — which means no single country or company moves it much. That breadth comes with the usual trade-offs of international income investing: foreign withholding taxes on dividends, currency exposure that can swamp the yield, and sector weights skewed toward banks and energy in a way a US fund would not be.

Who it suits. Investors who want income exposure outside the US and prefer breadth to conviction. Note the higher yield is partly compensation for currency and withholding-tax drag.
