What VIG is

VIG holds US companies that have raised their dividend for at least ten consecutive years — a longer runway than almost any competitor requires. The index then drops the highest-yielding decile, on the reasoning that an unusually high yield usually signals a share price that has already fallen, not a business that is thriving. What remains is roughly 300 large-cap names with a bias toward technology and industrials rather than the energy-and-staples profile of a yield-focused fund. The result is the lowest yield among the major US dividend ETFs and the steadiest growth in the payout.

Who it suits. Investors in accumulation rather than drawdown — people who care more about where the dividend will be in twenty years than about what it pays this year.
